If you are not on a monthly mobile phone contract and you’re looking for a good PAYG deal then join giffgaff. I’ve just switched from what I considered a good mobile network ( I wont mention their name here) to giffgaff because I was paying 15p a minute for calls and 10p per text, which isn’t bad for PAYG ,but giffgaff do it for 8p a minute for calls and 4p per text.

Who are giffgaff anyway?

From what I can gather since I’ve been there, they are an offshoot of O2 and use their network but the calls and other services are considerably cheaper. Members of the giffgaff community help each other via the forums and are actively encouraged to recruit new members. For instance, I am trying to encourage you to join giffgaff, so what’s in it for me. Well, if you join using my link, I get 500 points which equates to £5.00 and you get £5.00 worth of calls free when you join. When you have joined you can then order SIMs for your mates and you get the 500 points and your mates get the five quid added to their account, SIMS are free and you cant sell them, just give them away. You can of course go to giffgaff direct, order a SIM but you wont get the fiver added to your account, you only get the £5 if you order a SIM from another giffgaffer and it doesn’t cost you anything to order, it only costs you when you join and add credit to your account. You can add credit with a credit card or vouchers. There’s more about it on the giffgaff site. Click the banner below and it will take you my giffgaff page, if you order from this page you and I will get our fivers, also from that page you can  look around the site and find out more about their offers.

giffgaff goodybags

A goodybag is a mixture of calls, txt and mobile internet and each goodybag lasts for a month. There are 6 giffgaff goodybags to choose from but I will talk about the most popular one and that’s the £10 goodybag. First lets talk about giffgaff sim cardthe difference between your credit and goodybags. When you join for the first time you will need to credit your account with a minimum of £10, if you got your SIM from another giffgaffer then you get the extra fiver mentioned above, so that’s a total of £15 credit in your account. This credit will be used for calls or text and there is no time limit, so if you use you’re phone now and again it could last 12 months, it doesn’t matter there’s no limit when it comes to credit. Now, if you want a giffgaff goodybag you would buy this on top of your credit, or when you join for the first time you can choose to buy a goodybag which would last for a month and courtesy of another giffgaffer you would also have £5 credit left because you started with £15, got it.

So what’s in the £10 goodybag?

Okay, you get 250 minutes for calls, unlimited txt and unlimited mobile internet. If you need more call minutes you can buy a bigger goodybag. You can find out more about their goodybags on the giffgaff site. Now, just a word of caution regarding their unlimited mobile internet, if you are considering tethering your laptop to your mobile phone, don’t do it, its against giffgaff terms and conditions and they will ban you if you do it. If you have a smart phone then mobile internet is great for you and its unlimited when using a goodybag. I should also mention that if you are using your credit instead of the goodybags they will charge you 20p for the first 20MB of data per day and then 20p per MB after that. Again there is more info on their site.

Transferring your existing number to giffgaff

You can easily transfer any mobile number to giffgaff and you do this after you have activated your giffgaff sim. When you initially join giffgaff you will given a new number for your activated sim, when you are ready, you can transfer your number over to giffgaff.

How to transfer your number?

Contact your existing phone provider and ask them for a PAC code. They should give you a PAC code immediately. As long as you don’t owe your current provider for call charges or contractual charges, they have to give you a PAC code by law, don’t let anybody tell you different.

I have my PAC code, now what?

Go to the tranfer your number to giffgaff page on the giffgaff website, fill in the form which includes your new giffgaff number, the number you want to transfer in and your PAC code. When you initiate the transfer it will take a few hours for your number to transfer, when the transfer begins you may loose your service, this is normal and it doesnt take long.

I hope you enjoyed my review, I’m a fairly new giffgaffer myself and so far I love it. If you want to have a look round the giffgaff site just click the banner below, it will open in a new page, if you like what you see call back, click on the banner again and when you order your SIM you will get a fiver added when you join, by the way my giffgaff name is captinmike, hope to see you on the other side.
